Murlene Wilson

Murlene Carol Wilson passed away November 15, 2024 at the age of 82.

She was born January 26, 1942, in Council Bluffs, Iowa to the late Muryl and Mildred Caroline (Moss) Kemmish of Persia, Iowa. Murlene graduated from Tri-Center High School and attended courses at I.W.C.C.

She was married to her husband, LaVern for 48 years. They were members of Trinity Lutheran Church and later Murlene became a member of the Refuge Church. Murlene and LaVern owned and operated Wilson Service for 8 years and Murlene was the bookkeeper for their business. She also was a sub rural mail carrier, a Farm Department Realtor at Key Real Estate, a bookkeeper at the Southwest Iowa Eye Clinic, she worked in the insurance department at Alegent Health and drove a school bus at Tri-Center for 31 years, and during 21 of those, she drove a second daily route midday for Preschoolers.

Murlene was written in and elected to 10 years as a Persia City Council Member. She was then written in and elected their first woman Mayor. She took great pride in her concept on completion of a Park she named P.R.O.O.F., an acronym for "Pride Rules Over Our Future," its children. She also established the 2 Welcome areas as you enter Persia. She received the Governor's Volunteer Award. She was a charter member of 2 Tri-Center organizations; The Athletic Boosters and Dollars for Scholars.

Murlene dearly loved her family and also enjoyed traveling to attend MLB games, watching the NBA, and attending her families many musical gigs.

Murlene was preceded in death by her husband, LaVern; her brother, James; and sisters, Sharon McIntosh and LaVonne Dollen.

She is survived by her children, Caroline Dall, Denise (Jeff) Boyd, Michael (Denise), Keith (Kelly) and David (Danielle); several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and a host of other family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.

Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 19, 2024. Inurnment will be at Valley View Cemetery in Persia, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, the family will direct memorials to the Valley View Cemetery Fund.
