Nadine Diane Bunge DeVoss, 69, of Council Bluffs, passed away at home on September 25, 2023 after a short illness.
Nadine was born on June 26, 1954, in Fremont, Neb. Her mother, Nadine Ann Tjarks Bunge, passed away two days later.
After attending several elementary schools in Nebraska and Iowa, Nadine graduated from Osage (Iowa) High School, then went on to study at Luther College and the University of Iowa, where she earned a BS in dental hygiene. Nadine worked as a dental hygienist in Iowa and Ohio for more than 25 years. She was also the President of the Iowa Dental Hygiene Association and Clinical Instructor at the Creighton University School of Dentistry. Nadine was an avid gardener, completing her Master Gardener Certification and started a small gardening business in Council Bluffs. Nadine participated in multiple social groups and stayed in touch with countless friends. She was well known for her sense of humor, candor, and infectious laugh.
During her time in Iowa City, she met Dr. Gary Dean DeVoss, whom she married on June 3, 1978. Her husband survives, along with the couple's sons Brian (Hillary) DeVoss of Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich., Daniel DeVoss of Council Bluffs, and Rick (Nora) DeVoss of Denver, Colo.
Nadine is also survived by parents Paul and Gloria Bunge of Ft. Myers, Fla., brothers Martin Bunge of Madison, Wisconsin and John (Bridget) Bunge of Waterloo, Iowa; sister Martha (Marty) Zenor of Babcock Ranch, Florida; sisters-in-law Dianne (George) Behrends of Wiota, Iowa and Lindy Klinge of Ankeny, Iowa; brother-in-law Ed DeVoss of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; many nieces and nephews; and countless friends.
In addition to her mother, Nadine was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Hank and Emma Tjarks; paternal grandparents Harry and Lena Bunge; sisters-in-law Lana DeVoss and Cindy Bunge; and uncle Larry Tjarks.
Flowers and notes may be sent to Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home, where a visitation will be held in Nadine's honor on Thursday, September 28, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will on Friday, September 29, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI.org) on Nadine's behalf.
