Neil Sterling Shaver, age 95, of Council Bluffs, Iowa passed away June 3, 2019. He was born February 7, 1924 in Omaha, Nebraska to the late Joe & Leah (Morgan) Shaver.
Neil retired as president of Shaver’s Food Marts in 1980 and embarked on a printing / publishing hobby which specialized in deluxe limited editions (The Yellow Barn Press). His books are in the special collections of many libraries in this country and abroad, including Oxford and Cambridge Libraries in England and many locations in the United States such as the New York Public Library, the Huntington Library in California, Harvard University, Yale University, the University of Iowa, the Library of Congress and locally at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
He has been a member for many years of the Typophiles of New York, the American Printing History Association and the Rowfant Club of Cleveland (book collectors).
Neil was a longtime member of First Congregational Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Elmo Shaver and sister, Myrn Livingston.
He is survived by his wife, Fran Shaver; sons, Joseph Shaver (Robin) and Daniel Shaver (Melinda); daughter, Sarah Knauss (Billy Sams); grandchildren, Sarah Salado, Denver Cook (Alexis), Baylee Elliott, Anna Rose Morgan (Elias), Jessica Shaver, Joseph Shaver and J. R. Knauss; great grandchildren, Maci, R.J.,Thomas, Jayla, Jaden, Aaliyah and Stephen and many other family and friends.
Memorial service is Friday (June 7, 2019) at 2:00 p.m. at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. Inurnment is in the Westlawn Hillcrest Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Rowfant Club of Cleveland.
