Orrin “Obie” Matthews was born on September 12, 1924 to Orrin and Sadie Matthews at the farm near Carson. He was born just a minute before his twin brother Lorrin. He was raised on the farm and moved in 1945 to the farm he would call home for the next 70 years. He was united in marriage to Barbara Sue Wall on December 31, 1965. He wanted a date that would be easy to remember! Obie and Barb had three kids, Amy Sue (Robert Lee Conner), Kimberly Ann, and Jay Nathaniel (Kelly Marie). They raised these three kids on the farm that he had purchased from his parents. Obie grew crops and also raised cattle and hogs on the farm. He also worked as a mechanic at different times throughout his life for Pioneer Motors in Council Bluffs and at the beef plant in Oakland. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed hunting. Besides his family, his true love was fishing. He has more gear than his family knows what to do with, but they loved going with him on fishing trips. He was especially proud when he bought the first fishing poles for all his grandkids, Jennifer Ann, Justin Michael, Erin Nichole, Jayda Elizabeth, and Layne Stephen. He didn’t get the opportunity to buy poles for his two greatgrandchildren, Giana Lee and Willow Katherine.
He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law, Eleanor and William; his sister, Ruby; his brothers, Charles (Kathrine), Lorrin (Phyllis), and Donald.
He is survived by his wife, 3 children, 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, a sister-in-law, June, and many nieces and nephews.
