Philip J. Vacanti of Council Bluffs passed away October 4, 2012 at his home. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska on April 12, 1925 to the late Gaetano and Agata (Monzu) Vacanti. Philip graduated from Tech High School in Omaha and then proudly served his country during World War II. He later owned and operated PACCO in Omaha. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Philip Vacanti and Daniel Vacanti. Philip is survived by his wife, Jean Vacanti to whom he married February 8, 1947; daughters, Janice Garrison (Bill), Sharon Vacanti (Mike Gallentine); sons, Mike Vacanti and Robert Vacanti; sisters, Mary Rushlow and Marian Belfiore; daughters-in-law, Sharon and Kathy; 15 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; special niece, Ida Peterson; a host of other family and friends. Visitation is Monday 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. Memorial service is Tuesday 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a reception in the Hoy-Kilnoski Community Room. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Southwest Iowa’s Hospice House Building Fund or Women’s Club of Ft. Calhoun/Library.
