Rachel Ellen Burkey

Rachel Ellen Burkey of Council Bluffs passed away January 28, 2012 at the Hospice House in Omaha after a brief illness. She was born in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa on November 15, 1927 to the late Arthur & Grace (Glassburner) Bryan. She graduated from Harlan High School in 1946. Rachel worked for the Union Pacific Rail Road and later for First Federal Savings and Loan retiring in 1983. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings, John, Leon, Gilbert, Marion, Barbara and Arthur Jr. Rachel is survived by her husband, Vernon Burkey to whom she married April 17, 1949; children, Susan Burkey, Ann Jones (Kevin), Gale Nagunst (Jeff), Ellen Johnson (Mike), Mark Burkey (Beth), Eric Burkey (Brenda); sister-in-law, Betty Bryan; grandchildren, Brooke Jones and Marc Lallaman, Scott Jones and wife Leslie, Bryan Nagunst and wife Cyndi, Greg Nagunst, Rachel Nagunst, Katie Johnson, Molly Johnson, Sean Johnson, Daniel Burkey and wife Dana, Patrick Burkey, Lauren Burkey, Austin Burkey and Logan Burkey, great grandchildren, Andrew, Hailey, Caleb and Macy and a host of other family and friends. Rachel?s request was to be cremated and her ashes will be buried in the Cedar Lawn Cemetery on Saturday morning. The family will receive friends on Saturday beginning at 12 noon at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral home & Crematory. A celebration of her life will begin at 1PM. A reception will follow the service in the Hoy-Kilnoski Community Room
