Richard Duane Boehne, age 82, of Carter Lake passed away at his home on September 15, 2018.
Duane Boehne was born in Shenandoah, Iowa, on September 24, 1935. He was the son of August (Walter) and Alma Boehne.
After graduation from Shenandoah High School, he attended trade school in Missouri for auto mechanics. Duane's love for fast cars led him to the race track. He raced NASCAR and worked in a pit crew at Daytona.
December 25, 1955, he married Donna (Viner) from Red Oak, Iowa, and they moved to Omaha, then to Carter Lake, Iowa. They had four children: Linda Larkin (Michael) of Bellevue; Nancy Martin (David) of Casper, Wyoming; Richard Boehne (Debbie) of Bellevue; and Robert Boehne (Nicole) of Chicago, Illinois.
After years of teaching mechanics, Duane opened his own mechanics garage, E&P Automotive. He ran a successful business until he retired. Although retired, he still worked in the garage tinkering on cars. Duane was known to be able to fix anything. His many friends would seek his out his knowledge on cars and enjoyed his sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Darlene LaFerla, and an infant baby sister. He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, 4 children, 9 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and many nieces and a nephew.
Visitation is 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00p.m. on Wednesday at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. Funeral service is 11:00a.m. on Thursday at Timothy Lutheran Church – 3112 West Broadway in Council Bluffs. Interment is in the Hamburg, Iowa Cemetery.
