Richard Clausen

Richard Clausen was born in Denison, IA to William Sr. and Laura (Holstein) Clausen. He lived in several cities in the state prior to spending over 30 years in Mason City. Richard, age 86, passed away peacefully at Bethany Lutheran Home on November 11, 2021.

As a civil engineer for the Department of Transportation, Richard designed several sections of I-80 and oversaw the maintenance of the bridges across Iowa. A lover of classical music, the San Francisco 49ers, a lively political or theological debate, he had many interests and passions. However, he loved his family and friends most of all.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his companion, Margaret; brother, William (Bill) Clausen.

He is survived by his children, Michael (Patti) Clausen, Dennis Clausen, Michelle (Edward) Olivas and step-son, Dr. Rick Wilson.


A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Sunday, December 12, 2021. The family will direct memorials.
