Ricky L Vierck was born April 4, 1951 to the late Herman and Betty (Forrester) Vierck in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
He graduated with the class of 1969 from Treynor Community High School. Rick attended classes at Iowa Western Community College in Clarinda and University of Northern Iowa.
In 1972 Rick moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where he worked for Sutherland lumber Company. On April 14, 1973, he married Julie Ann Robertson. Together they raised three children: Jennifer, Karl, and Rachel. In the fall of 1974, they moved back to Iowa where Rick started his lifelong career as an over the road truck driver. He often would say, “I’ve backed up more miles than you've driven forward!” He drove truck for Pamida, Kroger precast, and NCI group. He retired in 2013.
Rick was a member of the Saint Paul Lutheran Church where he served on the council and often volunteered as a greeter.
Rick enjoyed sports. He was a big fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team and traveled to many major league stadiums to watch them play. The Iowa Hawkeyes were another one of his favorite teams to cheer for. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents. His survivors include his wife of 47 years, JulieAnn Vierck of Kansas City, Kansas; his daughters, Jennifer (Matt) Bryner, of Arvada, CO, Rachel (Robby) Brown of Kansas City, KS; son, Karl (Sarah) Vierck of Council Bluffs, IA; brothers-in-law, Dennis (Karen) Robertson of Manchester, IA, Fred (Pam) Robertson of Henderson, NV, and Douglas Robertson of LaQuinta, CA; grandchildren, Hannah Bryner of Fort Collins, Colorado, Henry Bryner of Arvada, Colorado, Sophia, Madeline, Olivia and Annabelle Brown all of Kansas City, Kansas, and June Vierck of Council Bluffs, Iowa; nieces, nephew, cousins, and countless friends.
Open visitation without family present is Sunday, December 6, 2020, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. A private funeral service will be held on Monday, December 7, 2020 and he will be interred in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Treynor. Memorials may be directed to the family.
