Robert E. Bird, 88 years, passed away at home on March 21st, 2018 in Highland Village, TX.
Born July 13, 1929 in Crescent, IA to the late Fred W. Bird Sr. and Grace Ann (Smith) Bird. Bob graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School, Council Bluffs, in 1948. Bob served in the National Guard for 6 years where his high school ROTC served him well.
Bob married Genevieve M. Bird in 1951. Their early married years were spent in Council Bluffs where they attended Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Then they moved to Columbus, NE and to Fremont, NE, attending Sinai Lutheran. It was next to Omaha in 1968, where they attended Lutheran Church of the Master, and then to Grand Island where they attended St. Paul Lutheran Church. They moved to Wahoo, NE in 1980, to Oklahoma City, OK in 1991, and have lived in Texas since 1995.
Bob worked for Bub’s Grocery through high school, then Skinner Macaroni, then Nogg Bros. Paper for the rest of his career. At Nogg Bros. he started in the warehouse and moved on to sales, was promoted to sales manager and then to branch manager, and spent his last 3 years back in sales before retiring in 1991.
Bob is survived by his sons, Thomas F. Bird and wife Patrice, James E. Bird and wife Pippa; grandchildren, Melissa Rodriguez and husband Alfredo, Margaret Fackler and husband Jeff, Andrew Bird, Patrice Reed and husband Jeff, and Matthew Bird; great grandchildren, Jordan and Nathan Fackler, Mikayla Bird (Andrew), Mila Rodriguez, Laney and Lily Reed; and sisters, Lucille Weatherill, Norma Heath and Mary Ione Spitznagle.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Genevieve; sisters, Lillian Gordon, Thelma Rief, Gladys Jensen and Viola Anderson; brothers Fred Bird, Jr., Melvin Bird, and George Bird.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Saturday at 12:00pm at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. Interment is in the Ridgewood Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs.
