Robert W. Green, age 94, passed away peacefully at his home in Council Bluffs on December 5, 2024.
He was born August 14, 1930, to the late Victor and Mildred (Roden) Green in Council Bluffs, IA. Bob worked on the family farm, spending many hours bailing hay with his father and brothers. He was active in 4-H, graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School with the class of 1948, and then proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a salesman for Pete's Feeds, then accepted a position as office manager for Shasta Beverages in Omaha, NE, and eventually became the owner of Green Distributing. Bob met Bonnie Jacobsen at a dance in Treynor, IA in 1953. They fell in love and on June 20, 1954, they were married at Broadway Methodist Church in Council Bluffs. From this union, three children were born, Susan, Sandra, and Keith. From the beginning, they shared everything. They raised their family, built lifelong friendships, and tackled life together.
Bob enjoyed family vacations in Minnesota and the Lake of the Ozarks, boating on the river, golfing with friends, and dancing to his favorite polkas, waltzes, and plenty of the Glenn Miller Band. He took an active role in the lives of their children and grandchildren, supporting them in their school activities and attending many of these events.
He was a member of the American Legion Rainbow Post #2, Elks #531, Bluffs City #71, the Tangier Shrine, and Botna Valley Shrine. For an Army veteran, he was pretty adept on the water, an avid water skier, he performed world-class stunts and was never afraid to push the limit. He passed this along to his family, raising the next generation, or two, of skiers. Bob also loved to golf in husband-and-wife tournaments with Bonnie and league play with friends, and his skill at reading greens was exceptional. He enjoyed partnering with Keith and his son-in-law Doug in cribbage tournaments at The Exchange in Avoca and The Station in Hancock. Bob was a fan of many sports teams, he loved his Nebraska Cornhuskers, but when his daughter went to the University of Iowa, along with his money, he soon became a Hawkeye fan, unless they were playing the Huskers. He has recently enjoyed the success of his beloved Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Green; daughter, Susan Green; grandson, Christopher Green; siblings, Dick Green, Dudley Green, Gwendolyn Leuch, and Carolyn Campbell; and son-in-law, Doug Burmeister.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Sandi Burmeister; son, Keith Green; brother and sister-in-law, Greg and Sharon Green; grandchildren, Dustin (Mary) Harris, Matthew (Shauna) Burmeister, Andrew (Angela) Burmeister, Hannah Green, and Scott Green; great grandchildren, Ryan, Jared, Jonah, Gus, Axel, Aurora, and Alaric; brother-in-law, Donald Leuch; sister-in-law, Virginia Green; nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other family and friends.
