Robert William Hansen, age 90, passed away Thursday June 11, 2015 with his family at his side. He was born December 29, 1924 in rural Pottawattamie County to the late William and Ethel Hansen. He was married to Lois Jean (Lustgraaf) Hansen for almost 60 years, until she passed away on March 4, 2007. Robert was a conductor for the Milwaukee and the Burlington Northern Railroads, retiring in 1986. He served in the Naval Amphibious Force during World War II as an engineer in a landing craft and participated in 3 invasions in the European Theatre and 2 in the Pacific Theatre. Robert loved traveling with his family and continued doing so until just recently. Over the years he went white water rafting in the Grand Canyon, rode in a hot air balloon, flew in a sail plane and visited China, England, France and Peru. He went on countless camping trips. His favorite place to visit was Utah. Robert is survived by his children, Connie J. Tompkins and her husband Eugene, Terry R. Hansen and his wife June, Teresa J. Holland and husband Dennis; 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren. Visitation is Wednesday 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. Funeral service is Thursday 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment is in the Cedar Lawn Cemetery with Military Honors. The family will direct memorials.
