Roy C. Murphy, age 90 of Council Bluffs, IA passed away March 22, 2013 at his home. He was born in Polk, Nebraska on June 7, 1922 to the late Harry A. and Zola M. (Baldwin) Murphy. Roy proudly served his Country in the United States Army during World War II. He retired in 1982 from the Union Pacific Railroad as the assistant superintendent of transportation. Roy was proud to be a member of the Order of the Arrow. He was a Boy Scout Leader and coached Little League Baseball for many years. At one point he was very involved in 4-H with his family, in fact they were 4-H family of the year in the late 70?s. Roy had participated in the Veteran?s Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. He enjoyed golfing and the yearly trips to Arizona with Kate. He loved to dance, shoot pool, pitch horseshoes. Roy enjoyed sailing. At one point he became a captain after a course at the Great Lakes. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by first wife Lillymae (Kaltwasser), parents, two brothers and one sister. Survived by wife, Catherine (McManigal) Murphy; children, David Murphy (Marian Langan) of Lincoln; Stanley Murphy (Joi) of Woodward, OK; Deborah Murphy (Dennis Wattier) of Omaha; Marvin McManigal (Linda) of Glenwood, IA; Susan Murphy (Dan Watson) of Rio Verde, AZ; Mike McManigal (Sandy) of Crescent, IA; Denise (Murphy) Fricke (Karl); Cindy Schmader (Frank), Sandra Forristall (Richard), Pat McManigal; and Susan Enewold (Mike) all of Council Bluffs; sister Marjorie (Murphy) Horn of Longmont, CO; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends that Roy loved dearly. Visitation is Monday 6-8PM at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. Funeral service is Tuesday 11AM at the funeral home. A reception will follow in the community room at Hoy-Kilnoski. Memorials are suggested to Salem United Methodist church for the Manawa Scholarship Fund.
