Ruby M. (Edmonds) Bates passed away July 13, 2015 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital. She was born on January 4, 1941 and lived all her life in Council Bluffs. She married Richard Bates on August 19, 1955 and together they owned and operated Porkeys Restaurant on 8th and Broadway for 6 years. Ruby worked many years for Kiess Kraft Dental Lab in Omaha and after her retirement, she was employed by First Student as a bus monitor. She attended El Bethel Assembly of God Church. Ruby was preceded in death by parents, Arthur and Marie Edmonds and brothers, Kenneth and his wife, Shirley Leek, and Virgil Leek. She is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Richard Bates; son, Al Bates; grandsons, Adrian and Allen; great granddaughters, Abbey and Alyssa; sister, Barbara Petersen; brothers, Glenn (Goldie) Hanson and Garold Butch (Brenda) Hanson; sister-in-law, Mary Leek; brothers-in-law, Duane (Betty) Bates, Norman (Carole) Bates; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Allen and Shirley (Gordon)Frizzell; many nieces, nephews, friends and Bingo buddies. Visitation with family will be Friday 6 to 8 p.m. and services Saturday at 11:30 a.m. all at Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. Following a luncheon at the funeral home, interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Oakland, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, the family will direct memorials.
