Russell L. Hanson, age 77, passed away peacefully at CHI Health Bergan Mercy November 3, 2023.
He was born October 22, 1946, to the late Lynford and Lorraine (Harmon) Hanson in Salt Lake City, UT. Russell graduated from Olympus High School in Salt Lake City, UT on May 28th, 1964. He graduated from the University of Utah with his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting on August 16th, 1969.
Russell was known for his love of the outdoors. He enjoyed spending time hunting and fishing, finding solace in nature. He especially enjoyed teaching his grandson how to fish. Russell was also a shadetree mechanic, always fixing something. He never hesitated to lend a hand to fix a car or offer advice on repairs.
Russell found immense joy in his role as a father and grandfather. He loved hearing stories about his children and grandchildren and cherished every moment spent with them. Russell especially enjoyed watching his grandsons participate in sports such as football, basketball, and baseball, cheering them on from the sidelines with pride.
Russell was a dedicated employee of Union Pacific Railroad for over 37 years, starting as a Payroll Officer and working his way through several positions throughout his career. He retired from the company on March 30, 2007, as the Manager of Process, Design, & Analysis in the Supply department, leaving behind a lasting legacy of hard work and dedication.
Russell is survived by his children, Russell (Marci) Hanson Jr., Peggy (Chris) Perry, Patricia (Tom) Anderson, and Dr. Penny Hanson; siblings, Victor (Shirley) Hanson, Juanita Luce, and Janet (Anthony) Anderson; grandchildren, Kayden Anderson, Brennan Anderson, Jordan Hanson, Savannah Payne, Haley Hanson, Kristen Sparks, and Skylor Perry; 8 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Thursday, November 9, 2023.
Funeral service will be held at McDougal Funeral Home in Taylorsville, UT at 11:00 on November 14, 2023. Burial will follow at Pleasant Green Cemetery in Magna, UT.
