Sam Curley passed away on July 8, 2013 in Papillion, NE where he had lived for almost six years. Prior to that, he was a resident of Bellevue, Ne. Sam is survived by his wife of more than 44 years, LaVerne (Sticken) Curley; one son, Paul S. Curley, III of Papillion; one daughter in law, Michelle (Anderson) Curley of Omaha; two grandchildren, Brayden 9 and Brenna 7; sister, Patty (Charles) Nelson of Colorado Springs, Colorado and sister, Donna (Jacob) Frydman of Highland Beach, Florida as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Sam served in the United State Air Force for 21 years and 5 months. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his three tours of duty in Vietnam. Additional military decorations included two Meritorious Service Medals and two Air Force Commendation Medals as well as many other medals. When he retired from the Air Force in 1981, Sam went to work for WOWT Channel 6 in Omaha in the Promotion department. From WOWT he took a position as Executive Director of the Council Bluffs Business Association and was there more than 10 years. His last position was as Development Director for the Nebraska Kidney Association. Sam retired in 2008 and devoted his life to his grandchildren. He often called them the centers of his universe. There will be a memorial service at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2013 at Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home and Crematory in Council Bluffs. Visitation with the family will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. There will be no graveside services as Sam will be interred at a later date. The family requests memorials to St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Bellevue, Ne or the Nebraska Kidney Association.
