Shirley Arlene Butler

Shirley (Shepperd) Butler passed away on December 31, 2011 at Mercy Hospital. She was born near Atlantic, Iowa on May 20, 1924. She attended Cass County Schools, graduating from Atlantic High School in 1942. She served as an Air-WAC in World War II. She and Rex Roy Butler were married in Dietz Memorial Methodist Church in Omaha, Nebraska in 1947. She was a beautician and later worked for the U.S. Postal Service in McClelland and Council Bluffs, Iowa as well as Omaha, Nebraska. She retired in 1986 as the Postmaster in McClelland. She had lived in Council Bluffs and McClelland and from 1988 to 2006, she and her late husband spent the winters in Arizona and New Mexico. Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Rex Butler; brother, Philip Duane Shepperd. Shirley is survived by three sons, Roger Butler and his wife, Cindy, Mark Butler and his significant other, Janet Hindt and Craig Butler; sister, Mary Darr; sister-in-law, Loretta Shepperd; grandchildren, Judy Fuller and husband, Scott, Karen Butler, Cheryl Butler, Jamie Hindt Traylor; great grandchildren, Michaela Fuller, Natosha Fuller; nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be Friday 11AM at Sherwood Community Church with a lunch following at the church. The family will direct memorials.
