Shirley Jean Saar, age 77, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2022, surrounded by family. She was born August 2, 1945 to the late Ralph and Pauline Smith in Woodbine, IA.
Shirley had a deep love and passion for God, people, and God's creatures and critters. Indoor and outdoor birds brought her so much joy in life as she loved and cared for them all.
She and Otto were members of First Christian Church in Council Bluffs for many years and raised their daughters to know, love, and serve Jesus Christ. With a strong faith, she lived her life with hope and gratitude, and woke up every day, ready to be a blessing to all. She worked for Hy-Vee owned Drug Town for many years, where she served people in ways beyond the walls of the store. She was so well loved in the community and by family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Duane Smith, Merle Smith, Lyle Smith, and Neil Smith; and sister, Marlene Little.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Otto; daughters, Kellie (Tim) Harding and Kerrie (Tom) Armstrong; 6 grandchildren, Brianna (Bryce) Koch, Brooke (Zak) Schneider, Mariah Armstrong, Abbigail Harding, Joe Harding, and Thomas Armstrong III; 2 new great grandsons, Hans Thomas Schneider and Truett Timothy Koch; sisters, Betty Moore and Christine Jones; brothers, Lester (Shirley) Smith and Stan Smith; as well as a host of other loving family and friends.
