Shirley Mae Boseck, age 81 of Council Bluffs passed away December 31, 2011 at Risen Son Christian Village. She was born January 23, 1930 on her parents? farm near Barnard, Missouri to the late Dale & Mattie (Fanning) Goforth. In 1946 she moved with her family to Griswold, Iowa and at the age of 16 was baptized in the Griswold Church of Christ. She graduated from Griswold High School in 1948 and in August of that year, she married Robert O. Boseck. Shirley Mae worked for the telephone company while Bob worked with his father at Boseck Oil/Ford Motor Company. Bob was drafted into the United States Army in 1952. At the time Shirley was pregnant and after delivering their son, Mike, she followed Bob to Belvoir, Virginia. In 1954 they moved back to Griswold where their daughter, Canda Sue was born in 1955. In 1956 they moved to Norfolk, Nebraska where Bob attended the Nebraska Christian College and Shirley Mae became the head cook and boys dorm mother. In 1962 they moved to Council Bluffs where their life of Ministry began at First Christian Church. They went to Cozad, Nebraska in 1969 and then in 1974 returned to First Christian Church in Council Bluffs and remained there until their retirement in 1997. Shirley meant everything to Bob. She was his rock, and the foundation for their family and his ministry. She also maintained a career with J.C. Penney retiring from there in 1994 after 24 years of service. Shirley is preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Genevieve Russell. Shirley is survived by her husband of 63 years, Robert O. Boseck; son, Mike Boseck and his wife, Patty of Webb City, Missouri; daughter Canda Sue Kandt and her husband, Charles of Knoxville, Tennessee; sister, Vaughncille Johnson; brother, Larry Goforth; brother-in-law, Gordon Russell; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; many dear friends. Visitation is Wednesday 6-8PM at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home & Crematory. Funeral service is Thursday 10:30AM at the funeral home. A reception will follow the service in the Hoy-Kilnoski Community Room with burial later that afternoon in the Pleasant Township Cemetery near Griswold, Iowa.
