Steven Brickey

September 26, 1965 — February 22, 2024

Steven Wayne Brickey, body-builder, loving husband, food-date dad, dancing Papa and hilarious friend, was born 9/26/1965 and passed 2/22/24 after years of fighting primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal Dementia. He was a fighter all of this life but through his fifties he fought with this disease that stole his words. More importantly he was known for his humor and love of comedy. His Father of the Bride Speech talked about how important it was to "Just Laugh".

Scuba Steve was his loving nickname by coworkers, family and some friends. He believed in Chocolate Cake before the big steak dinner at Pizza King, asking way too many questions from his kids in the medical field and his trademark smirk with a silver crown twinkling through. He was the son to Frank and Cecelia Brickey that was curious about welding, motorcycles, fighting but had a heart of gold especially when meeting the love of his life, Cindy.

Cindy and Steve were pronounced Mr. and Mrs. "Brickley" on October 14th, 1989 and were blessed with Jessica and Steven while Steve was pursuing plumbing school.

He could calculate slopes with trigonometry equations, draw precise floor layouts with spelling every description wrong and was a pro at drawing Garfield along with many other pieces of art. He was intelligent, street smart, proud to be the worst speller, adventurous, protective of his own, and a great story teller.

He loved music like KC and the Sunshine Band that he would dance to with his grandchildren, Jensen and Julian, as well as Prince, ACDC, Guns & Roses, Cars, Offspring, Metalica and Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers.

Steve would want to be remembered for the fun, silly, stubborn, ornery guy he was before this disease. He is finally at peace; proud of all the people around him.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Cecelia, Grandpa and Grandma Carlyle and Edna Brickey who meant a lot to him.

He is survived by his wife Cindy Brickey; Father, Franklin Brickey; Brother, Frank Brickey Jr.; Sisters; Karen (Joe) Konopik-Bishop, Penny (JR) Core, Candy (Jay) Wilson; Children, Jessica (Jacob) Duncan and Steven (Brittany) Brickey Jr; Grandchildren, Jensen and Julian Duncan; and many other nieces, nephews and other family.

Steve became close with the staff at Amelia Place and Glen Haven who kept him safe.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a memorial donation to the Alzheimer's Association Walk in Council Bluffs to Team Scuba Steve in his memory and for other dementia caregivers to have resources.
