Sylvia A. Reekers, age 84, passed away at Fox Run Assisted Living Community on July 14, 2024 surrounded by family.
She was born August 6, 1939 to the late Otto and Herta (Paul) Rasmussen in Ada, MN. Sylvia started working at her Aunt Elsie's café when she was 13, making pies. She also learned book keeping and helped with this as well.
After graduating in 1957 from Fertile High School, Sylvia and some of her girlfriends moved to the big city of Minneapolis and rented an apartment. She got her first "Adult" job with Northwestern Bell. One night out with friends, Sylvia met a strapping young man, Lynn Reekers, they reunited into marriage on August 4, 1962. They were married 54 years.
After moving 13 times, they settled in Council Bluffs. Sylvia stayed home for many years as a homemaker. She went back to work at Blue Star Foods for a period of time, and then returned to the phone company. Sylvia retired from Century Link after 35 plus years of service.
Sylvia was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. She joined red hats - Red Bonnet Babes, which she really enjoyed spending time with these ladies. She loved traveling to different places with her family and was an incredible cook. She made the best gravy and put her love into the food she made. She always made sure you were never hungry when you left the table. Sylvia made everyone feel special and had a kind soul.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lynn Reekers.
Sylvia is survived by her children, Renee Erbes (Chris), Melinda Shaver (Dan), and Holly Reekers; daughter/granddaughter, Michaela Geyer (David) and grandson, Trent Bilello; great-grandchildren, Joseph Geyer and Christopher Geyer; brother, Duane Rasmussen, Crosby MN; sister, Arlene Warnicke, Kalamazoo, MI; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Thursday, July 18, 2024.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Friday, July 19, 2024. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will direct memorials.
