Thomas "Tom" Schnepel

October 25, 1957 - April 15, 2025

Thomas "Tom" Schnepel, of Treynor, Iowa, passed away on April 15th surrounded by family. Born October 25, 1957, in Council Bluffs, Tom lived a life rooted in tradition, service and deep devotion to family.

A proud graduate of Lewis Central High School, Class of 1976, Tom grew up immersed in farm life. From a young age, he worked with his grandparents on the family farm established in 1889-a place that became not just his home, but his lifelong calling. Farming was not just what Tom did, it was who he was.

Tom was a passionate supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, earning his Eagle Scout rank at the age of thirteen. He carried that commitment into adulthood, serving in numerous leadership roles including Scoutmaster for Troop 729 and served on the Eagle Board for Trailblazer District. He guided and inspired countless young people through the scouting program, including his two sons, who both proudly achieved the Eagle rank under his mentorship. His dedication to scouting earned him several distinguished awards over the years, including the Silver Beaver Award for his distinguished service at the Council level.

He was active in the Iowa Pork Producers and Farm Bureau Services, continuing his commitment to agriculture beyond the family farm. He also found great joy in attending the World's Championship Bar-B-Que Contest in Houston, Texas. As the "Bean Boss" for the Texas Social Club team, he played a pivotal role in their culinary endeavors.

Tom had a deep appreciation for tractors-especially John Deere-and took great pride in his grandfather's Farmall 450, which he maintained and drove in events like Tyler Juranek's annual "Ride Into Sight" tractor ride. His love for the land and machinery was both practical and sentimental, blending work with play in the most genuine way.

Tom's life was one of quiet strength, deep faith in family, and unwavering dedication to community. He will be remembered for his steady presence, generous heart and the legacy he leaves behind in the lives he shaped.

Tom is preceded in death by his father, Delwin "Bud" Schnepel, and bonus dad, Fred Ivers.

Tom is survived by his wife of 44 years, Lori; his children, Brian (Carlie) Schnepel, Amanda (Tate) Brandon, and Ben Schnepel (and his girlfriend, Linsey Messerschmidt); and his beloved grandchildren, Conner and Charlotte Brandon. He is also survived by his mother, Phyllis Schnepel; siblings, Ann (David) Brust, Jan (Doug) Carlson, and John (Dawn) Schnepel; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
