Vera Mae Bryson, age 88, died at Jennie Edmundson Hospital on Wednesday, March 30, 2016. She was born in Oakland, Iowa on April 11, 1927 to the late Chester and Minnie Hanlon. She was a longtime member of Faith Lutheran Church where she served as past president of LWML, taught vacation bible school and started the Sewing Sisters Group, sewing quilts for the needy. She loved fishing, reading, playing games and cards, sewing and she was a talented artist. She retired as a vocational instructor at Metro Tech Community College having taught upholstery there. She was a Bethany Lutheran Home volunteer of the month, served as a past member of the Council Bluffs Community Development Advisory Committee, past president of the Southside Neighborhood Organization and past president and treasurer of the Fairview Pioneer Memorial Association. She loved her family, friends and sisters at Faith, very much. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband Rodger; brothers, Ivan and Elvin Heiman; sisters, Evelyn Wooley and Leota Brinton. Vera is survived by her children: Autumn Stoops Smelser (Max), Meredith Stoops Wilson, Minnie Walsh, Carrin Devor (Robert), Mary Sellers (Richard), Rodger Bryson II (Tammy); little brothers Elvin Heiman Jr. and Billy Joe Heiman; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by family, friends and all who knew her. Funeral service Saturday, 2 pm, at Faith Lutheran Church, 2100 S 11th St, Council Bluffs. Interment will be at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the family.
