Victor James Harrod departed this life on January 20, 2015, at the age of 80 years, 2 months, and 2 days at the Magnolia Regional Hospital in Corinth, MS. He was born on November 18, 1934, son to the late Victor Lee and Lydia Margaret Biggert Harrod. He was united in marriage to Carol A. Leigh on August 7, 1982, who survives. Mr. Harrod was a retired United States Army Veteran who served as Sergeant First Class. During his military service, he served as the coach for the 1968 Olympic Pentathlon Mexico City Olympics in 1979. He was awarded the Distinguished Expert Gold Medal for Marksmanship at Fort Hood, Texas and also received the Excellence in Competition match in the Texas State Pistol Championship in San Antonio in 1979. He courageously served his country for a total of 21 years. After he retired from the Army, he started Apex Painting, Inc. in Aurora, Colorado and retired from there in 1998. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Kristy K. Wymore (Mike) of New Braunfels, TX; John L. Harrod of New Braunfels, TX; Jeffrey E. Harrod of Omaha, NE; and Victor J. Harrod, Jr. of Akutan, AK; two step-children Joseph L. Butcher (Karen) of Buena Vista, Colorado, Thomas J. Butcher (Amanda) of Bennington, NE; one sister Janette Martin (Arnold) of Council Bluffs, Iowa; grandchildren Kari Wolnik, Myranda Ott (Devan); Trisha Kent (Zak); Harrison W. Butcher, Sylvie Jane Butcher, and great grandchildren Lindsey Wolnik, Dominic Bucher, Drake Bucher, and Danielle Bucher. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife Donnita I. Martin Harrod; sisters Marge Yochum, Donna Jean Mudra, and Dorothy Monroe; and grandson Kevin Wolnik.
