Virgil D. Anderson, age 102, passed away peacefully at his home on December 18, 2024. He was born August 4, 1922, to the late Harry and Milda (Dorman) Anderson in Council Bluffs, IA.
Virgil graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School with the class of 1939 and was a lifelong farmer, cattle feeder, raised corn and soybeans and this farm eventually became a Century Farm. Throughout his life, Virgil was a 4-H leader and served on the Advisory Board for Good News Global. He was also a member of Salem United Methodist Church for over 70 years where he served on several boards. He enjoyed and owned several antique tractors and cars. Virgil was a proud father and grandfather and enjoyed attending the events of his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Dorothy Anderson; brother, Arlon Anderson; granddaughter, Laura Anderson; step-mother, Ethel Anderson.
Virgil is survived by his wife, June White, and they enjoyed 14 wonderful years together; children, Don (Kathey) Anderson, Larry (Debby) Anderson, Joyce (Norm) Springer, and Jan (Bob) Meis; sister, Myrt Anderson; grandchildren, Dan (Brandy) Anderson, Sara (Eric) McCrory, Marcy (Jeremy) Penrod, Ryan (Ellen) Anderson, Jessica (Zach) Bass, Jennifer (Eric) Nihart, Nole (Liz) Springer, Brent Springer, Kristen Springer, Brock (Emily) Meis, and Connor (Emmaline) Meis; 27 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild; step-daughters Cynthia Sisser and Karen (Troy) Kinnean; a host of other family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Salem United Methodist Church on Friday, December 27, 2024. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM at Salem United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 28, 2024. Interment is in Walnut Hill Cemetery. The family will direct memorials in Virgil's honor.
