Virginia M. Mcclanahan

Virginia Mae Ginnie McClanahan, age 89, of Council Bluffs passed away peacefully at Jennie Edmundson Hospital on April 30, 2016. She was born on June 23, 1926 to Frank Sr. and Nellie (Phillips) Messmore in Council Bluffs. She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School with the class of 1944 and worked for Selective Services from 1944 to 1948. She then worked at NW Bell Telephone Co. and later at Lillys Answering Service in Omaha. She married John R. McClanahan on Sept. 2, 1972 at First Christian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John; brother, Frank Jr.; sister-in-law, Dagny Viola; and nephew, Frank III and his wife, Jeri. She is survived by her nephews, Danny Messmore (Andrea) and Larry Messmore; niece, Suzanne Hawkins (Jen Campbell); great nephew, Justin Messmore (Christina); and several great nieces and nephews. Private family graveside services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Micah House in her honor.
