Wallace Harvey Willms, 76, of Council Bluffs, Iowa passed away following his long battle with Lewy body dementia on Saturday August 26th. He was at home and surrounded by the people that love him most.
Wally was born in Omaha, NE on September 20th 1940. He graduated from Benson High School where he met his wife Suzanne Banset. Shortly after high school, Wally joined the Army Reserves where he served for 8 years, including 6 months of active duty.
Wally and Sue were married on October 21st, 1961; they were married for 55 years.
Wally spent his entire career in the construction field beginning as a carpenter and working his way through the ranks to Senior VP at Leuder Construction. Wally loved his job so much that even his final days were spent “planning projects”.
In years past, he enjoyed spending his time in a variety of ways. Including coaching his kids’ sports teams, building model trains, running a successful EBay empire, completing projects around the house, watching NASCAR and spending time with his family and dogs. His proudest accomplishment was his family.
Wally is preceded in death by his parents Wallace and Dorothy; as well as his sister and 4 grandchildren.
Wally is lovingly remembered by his wife, Sue and seven children; Shari and her husband Jim, Steve, Lori and her husband Jason, Scott and his wife Katie, Mark, Kevin, and Mary and her husband JD. Together his seven children have 12 grandchildren and counting; Courtney, Nick, Ryan, Malia, Jadyn, Ashley, Lyndsi, AJ, Thomas, Kaylee, Connor, and Reagan. He is also survived by his brother Dennis and 5 nieces and nephews.
Vigil service is 5:30p.m. followed by visitation until 8:00p.m. at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:00a.m. on Thursday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church – 1 Bluffs Street in Council Bluffs. Interment is in the Bohemian Cemetery in Omaha.
