William Gallo

November 28, 1936 — November 15, 2024

Bill Gallo, age 87, passed away peacefully November 15, 2024, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital surrounded by his family and a wonderful group of caring nursing staff members.

Bill and his wife, Mary, celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary in June.

He was preceded in death by his parents Billie and Angie Gallo, his infant son, Anthony, and granddaughter, Paige.

Bill is survived by his wife, Mary; son, Michael; daughter, Lisa; grandchildren: Sydney, Kevin, Megan, Sarah, Lauren and Cole; and his sister Barbara.

With the exception of a short 6-year business-related transfer, he was a life-long resident of Council Bluffs. He was a 3-season athlete in high school, lettering in track, football and baseball. After graduating from Abraham Lincoln High School, Bill worked for Union Pacific Railroad, was an active member of the Junior Old Timers and continued to play baseball for the Goodrich Team in Council Bluffs. Two years later, he enlisted in the US Army and spent three years as a US Army Personnel Specialist in Europe. After his commitment was fulfilled, he returned to his hometown to be with family, met and married his wife and continued to work for Union Pacific Railroad for 37 years, finally retiring in 1992. Shortly thereafter, he grew bored and decided to become employed again, this time with Sears Co. in Council Bluffs, meeting new people who sought knowledge about everything lawn and garden. He spent the next 10 years as a part-time sales associate, helping anyone who passed through the department. After 10 years he was ready to call it time to retire' for real. Bill was blessed with a good retirement life filled with lots of fishing, family, playing cards, and with vacations to Europe and Alaska (twice each). He was an avid fisherman always having his equipment ready to spend the day in some remote fishing spot with anyone who wanted to join him. He looked forward to the card parties held each month with classmates and friends and enjoyed winning the "pot" occasionally. He dearly loved being with his high school classmates through the years, helping to make plans for class reunions and social activities and was always a friend to all. As a father and grandfather, he loved-each-and-every member of his family without reservation. His wife, his kids and grandchildren loved him in return and will sorely miss him.

Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Friday, January 10, 2025, with a visitation an hour prior to the service.

Military Burial Service for the family will be held at Omaha National Cemetery.
