William W. Bonar

William W. Bonar, was born on March 27, 1932 to Mildred & James Bonar. Bill attended school in Dunlap, several country schools and graduated from Carson High School.

Bill enjoyed helping Raymond Guttau on his farm after graduating, before joining the army. Bill served his country in Korea and returned to the United States until his discharge. He returned to the area where his sweetheart was waiting. On October 8, 1954, he married Vernelle Hekter. They enjoyed many years of farming in the Treynor and Oakland areas.

They retired from farming and moved to a home West of Treynor and Bill began working as a salesman for Walnut Grove Feeds for 20 years. Bill and Vernelle moved to their home in Treynor in 1994 and Bill worked part-time as a shuttle driver for Harrah’s Casino. The couple moved to Risen Son earlier this year.

Bill was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Treynor. He served on the church council, was a Sunday School Superintendent, and a member of the Wedded Band. Bill was a member of the Treynor American Legion Lamar Hartje Post #725. Bill and Vernelle loved cheering on all of the Treynor Cardinal teams.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, a sister Lois and a brother Robert.

He died on December 4 with his sweetheart by his side. He is survived by Vernelle, his wife of 63 years, two brothers, Ray and Richard of Council Bluffs, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends

Visitation is 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. on Thursday at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. Funeral service is 11:00a.m. on Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Treynor. Interment is in the St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church or the American Legion Lamar J. Hartje Post #725.
